Peripheral intravenous cannula insertion and use in the emergency department; an intervention study

Hawkins T, et al. - This study sought to assess the cannulation practice and effectiveness of a multi-modal intervention to reduce peripheral intravenous cannula (PIVC) insertion in emergency department (ED) patients. Here, the intervention reduced PIVC placement and increased the percentage of PIVC placed that were used. Patients and health services benefitted the program alike with potential for large cost savings.
