Pellucid marginal degeneration vs keratoconus: Distinction with wide-field SD-OCT corneal sublayer pachymetry
British Journal of Ophthalmology Oct 18, 2020
Mohr N, Shajari M, Krause D, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective cross-sectional study to assess the capability of wide-field spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) corneal sublayer pachymetry to differentiate between keratoconus and pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD). Sixty-nine eyes (59 with keratoconus and 10 with PMD) of 69 patients were included. In both keratoconus and PMD, the overall repeatability of (sublayer) pachymetry was comparably strong. In PMD and keratoconus, wide-field SD-OCT corneal sublayer pachymetry demonstrated good reliability and may be useful to distinguish between the two ectatic diseases.
