Patterns of uveitis in children according to age: Comparison of visual outcomes and complications in a tertiary center
BMC Ophthalmology Jul 03, 2019
Al-Haddad C, et al. - In this retrospective chart review, researchers analyzed children with uveitis syndromes focusing on demographics, anatomic distribution, etiologies, treatment, and complications. The study sample consisted of 80 eyes of 49 uveitis patients aged ≤16 years. Data reported that the most common diagnosis was idiopathic uveitis. Findings revealed that anterior uveitis complications (posterior synechiae and band keratopathy) were more common in the younger group, on the other hand, posterior uveitis manifestations (vitreous haze and vasculitis) were more common in the older age group. Overall, the authors concluded that anterior uveitis and its complications were more common in the visually immature group. In the younger population, amblyopia was identified as the main cause of visual loss.
