Patient-related risk factors for postoperative stiffness requiring surgical intervention after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Mar 28, 2019
Burrus MT, et al. - From 2007 to 2015, researchers estimated the patient-related risk factors for stiffness after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR). They observed 232 subjects underwent lysis of adhesions (LOA) and/or postoperative manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) within 9 months following arthroscopic RCR. They recognized significant risk factors: age less than 50 years, female sex, diabetes mellitus (DM) type I, hypothyroidism, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Although, an association of tobacco use with a 0.5 risk of developing stiffness was also reported.
