Norton JC, et al. - Authors ascertained the patient characteristics and outcomes for developing retained nuclear fragments in the anterior chamber after phacoemulsification cataract extraction in at-risk populations. In patients having cataract extraction, the risk factors for retained nuclear fragments could be long eyes, steep corneas, and a shallow anterior chamber depth (ACD). Best visual outcomes were provided by prompt identification and surgical removal because most cases proved refractory to steroid treatment.
