Pathophysiological role of fatty acid‐binding protein 4 in Asian patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction
ESC Heart Failure Nov 13, 2020
Harada T, Sunaga H, Sorimachi H, et al. - Researchers investigated whether circulating fatty acid‐binding protein 4 (FABP4) concentrations would be increased in patients suffering from heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), would correlate with cardiac structural as well as functional abnormalities, and could predict clinical results. Participants were patients experiencing HFpEF (n = 92) and patients having coronary artery disease free of HF (n = 20). A composite endpoint of all‐cause death or HF hospitalization was assessed. Findings revealed the presence of elevated serum FABP4 levels in HFpEF, as well as showed the link of serum FABP4 concentrations with cardiac remodelling and dysfunction as well as with poor outcomes. Therefore, experts concluded a likely role of FABP4 as a potential biomarker in the complex pathophysiology of HFpEF.
