Oxidative stress, inflammation and risk of neurodegeneration in a population sample
European Journal of Neurology Jun 21, 2019
Cherbuin N, et al. - In this investigation involving 380 older community-living people, researchers explored the connection between a combination of oxidative stress (OS)/inflammation markers and outcomes including mild cognitive impairment (MCI) diagnosis, cognitive decline and hippocampal atrophy. Combined analysis of complex and interacting biomarkers has exhibited a protective link between antioxidant activity and MCI that is consistent with lifestyle factors that have been shown to decrease cognitive decline risk. It has also been discovered that OS and broad systemic inflammation are associated with hippocampal atrophy, further illustrating the advantages of the principal component analysis methodology implemented in this research.
