Overexpression of miR-671-5p indicates a poor prognosis in colon cancer and accelerates proliferation, migration, and invasion of colon cancer cells

OncoTargets and Therapy Aug 28, 2019

Jin W, et al. - Researchers looked at the potential role of miR-671-5p in colon cancer. They used 115 paired colon cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues, and colon cancer cells, for performing reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction to determine the expression levels of miR-671-5p. Using the Kaplan-Meier curve and Cox regression analyses, the prognostic importance of miR-671-5p in colon cancer was estimated. In colon cancer tissues and cell lines, increased expression of miR-671-5p was seen. They also noted the link of miR-671-5p overexpression with lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and poor overall survival of patients with colon cancer. Based on the findings, a possible role of miR-671-5p as an oncogene in colon cancer was suggested. By targeting TRIM67, miR-671-5p was shown to promote proliferation, migration, and invasion of colon cancer cells. Furthermore, its possible role as a promising prognostic biomarker as well as a therapeutic application for colon cancer treatment was suggested.
