Outpatient total hip replacement has minimal short term complications with the use of institutional protocols

Weiser MC, et al. - Researchers sought to assess and validate the safety and effectiveness of their institutional same-day discharge (SDD) total hip arthroplasty (THA) care pathway. They compared the outcomes of patients undergoing SDD-THA with patients who had a similar comorbidity profile and underwent inpatient THA. Results with equivalent or better short-term outcomes could be produced with the use of an institutional SDD-THA care pathway than that of traditional inpatient THA.
