Outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement for patients with severe aortic stenosis and concomitant aortic insufficiency: Insights from the TVT Registry
American Heart Journal Aug 25, 2020
Bhardwaj B, Cohen DJ, Vemulapalli S, et al. - Researchers utilized data from the STS/ACC-TVT Registry to determine the prevalence of severe aortic stenosis (AS) with concomitant aortic insufficiency (AI) in patients receiving transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as well as results of TAVR in this patient population. They assessed all-cause death and heart failure (HF) hospitalization at 1-year, applying multivariable proportional hazards regression models. They noted 42,568 (78.1%) of 54,535 patients receiving TAVR had severe AS with concomitant AI. Those with severe AS with concomitant AI had lower device success than isolated AS. Overall, patients undergoing TAVR commonly encountered severe AS with concomitant AI. Findings demonstrated lower 1 year mortality and HF hospitalization in relation to severe AS with concomitant AI.
