Outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement for patients with severe aortic stenosis and concomitant aortic insufficiency: Insights from the TVT Registry
American Heart Journal Jul 22, 2020
Bhardwaj B, Cohen DJ, Vemulapalli S, et al. - Researchers utilized data from the STS/ACC-TVT Registry to determine the prevalence of severe aortic stenosis (AS) with concomitant aortic insufficiency (AI) in patients receiving transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as well as the results of TAVR in this patient population. Depending on the severity of pre-procedural AI, patients were grouped. There were 54,535 patients receiving TAVR, of those, 42,568 (78.1%) were identified to have severe AS with concomitant AI. Lower device success was reported in patients with severe AS with concomitant AI vs isolated AS. Overall, in patients undergoing TAVR, severe AS with concomitant AI was common and was shown to be correlated with lower 1 year death and heart failure hospitalization.
