Outcomes of revision anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction secondary to reamer-irrigator-aspirator harvested bone grafting
Injury Dec 21, 2018
Prall WC, et al. - Researchers evaluated the utility of reamer-irrigator-aspirator (RIA) harvested bone from the femur for patients with widened or misplaced tunnels requiring bone grafting prior to revision anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. They calculated tunnel volumes and filling rates based on manual segmentation of axial CT scans in a total of 15 consecutive patients, prospectively enrolled in this case series. Outcomes revealed sufficient bone stock consolidation with autologous RIA harvested bone grafting. This supported anatomical tunnel placement of the subsequently conducted revision ACL reconstruction. Satisfactory subjective and objective outcomes were achieved with this two-staged procedure that reliably restored stability. Hence, RIA harvested bone grafting is supported to be an eligible alternative to autologous iliac crest or allogenic bone grafting.
