Outcomes of patients with severe aortic stenosis and left ventricular obstruction undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation

The American Journal of Cardiology Jul 31, 2020

Kaewkes D, Ochiai T, Flint N, et al. - Researchers assessed the prevalence, features, as well as results in patients with severe aortic stenosis and left ventricular obstruction (LVO) receiving transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). In the overall and propensity-matched populations, they examined all-cause death and rehospitalization for heart failure (HHF) [primary composite outcome] at 1-year among patients with LVO and those without LVO. Following adjustment for baseline disparities, no significant difference in the primary outcome was evident between patients with LVO and those without LVO. Findings revealed relatively uncommon occurrence of concomitant LVO in patients receiving TAVI, with more frequent occurrence at mid-LV (left ventricular). Experts found no link between presence of pre-TAVI LVO and worse results defined as increase all-cause death or HHF at 1-year.
