Outcomes and safety of transcatheter aortic valve implantation with and without routine use of transesophageal echocardiography
American Journal of Cardiology Jul 12, 2018
Bhatnagar UB, et al. - In this single-center retrospective analysis, researchers compared the outcomes and procedural safety between patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) with and without routine use of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) from September 2012 to February 2017. They gathered information regarding procedural details, length of stay and re-hospitalizations from all patients. They found that periprocedural complications and 30-day readmissions reported for TAVI without the “routine use” of TEE was similar to those done with TEE guidance. In the TEE group, predictably higher overall procedure length and length of stay was observed.
