Outcome of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in patients with peripheral vascular disease
The American Journal of Cardiology May 14, 2019
Darmoch F, et al. - In order to determine how peripheral vascular disease (PVD) influences patients who undergo transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), researchers used the National Inpatient Sample database (2011 and 2014) and compared PVD patients undergoing TAVI to those patients without PVD in terms of clinical features and procedural outcomes using propensity score matching. The study sample included 55.8% females and 4.3% African Americans. Participants had a mean age of 81 years. Compared to patients without PVD, higher in-hospital death and a higher incidence of in-hospital overall complications were evident in PVD patients.
