Outcome of alcohol septal ablation in mildly symptomatic patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy: A comparison with medical therapy
Clinical Cardiology Jul 28, 2021
Li P, Xue Y, Sun J, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers investigated efficacy following alcohol septal ablation (ASA) in mildly symptomatic patients (NYHA class II) suffering from hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), vs medical therapy. Participants included 163 mildly symptomatic patients with HOCM, divided as the medical group (n = 105) and the ASA group (n = 58). A total 161 patients completed the follow-up. Findings revealed that comparable survival was observed between ASA managed and medically treated mildly symptomatic patients with HOCM. Improvement of NYHA class and lower occurrence of new-onset atrial fibrillation were noted in relation to treatment with ASA. There was an independent link of all-cause mortality with resting left ventricular outflow tract gradient at the last clinical check-up.
