Outcome following olecranon osteotomy vs paratricipital approach for complex intra-articular (AO 13-C) fracture of distal humerus: A prospective comparative study
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Mar 22, 2019
Singh R, et al. - Between 2011 and 2015, 51 individuals with closed complex intra-articular fracture of distal humerus (AO13-C) were studied to assess the consequences of olecranon osteotomy (OO) vs paratricipital approach (PT). Researchers observed 27 cases in the PT group and 24 in the OO group. They observed no difference in an arc of motion and Mayo elbow performance score (MEPS) as well as complication rate. They found a weak, negative correlation of age and surgical delay with an arc of motion and MEPS. A statistically significant association between age and surgical delay against the arc of motion was also reported. Hence, they concluded the alternative use of the PT approach and the OO approach for AO 13-C1 and -C2 fractures due to their similar outcomes.
