Orthostatic hypotension and symptomatic subclinical orthostatic hypotension increase risk of cognitive impairment: An integrated evidence review and analysis of a large older adult hypertensive cohort

European Heart Journal Jul 28, 2018

Peters R, et al. - Researchers analyzed the relationship between orthostatic hypotension (OH) and incident cognitive decline or dementia in the hypertensive oldest-old. From the Hypertension in Very Elderly Trial (HYVET) cohort, participants aged ≥ 80 years, with hypertension were included. Findings suggest an increased risk of dementia and cognitive decline in relation to orthostatic hypotension. They suggest considering orthostatic hypotension with symptoms (SOH) to be risk factor, at least in older hypertensive adults.
