Oral amoxicillin-clavulanate for treating diabetic foot infections

Gariani K, et al. - Via performing a retrospective cohort analysis among 794 diabetic foot infection (DFI) episodes, including 339 diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) cases, researchers evaluated amoxicillin-clavulanate (AMC) for the oral therapy of DFIs, particularly for DFO. After surgical debridement (including partial amputation), the median duration of antibiotic therapy was 30 days. For a median of 20 days, oral AMC was prescribed. In patients with DFIs and DFOs, oral AMC is a reasonable option.
