Optimal timing for coronary intervention in patients with transient ST-elevation myocardial infarction
The American Journal of Cardiology Nov 02, 2019
Meisel SR, Kleiner-Shochat M, Fanne RA, et al. - Since the plausibility of primary intervention in patients with transient STEMI (TSTEMI) but the scope for delaying the intervention in certain circumstances has been suggested by current evidence, therefore, researchers investigated if there exists a time limit to such a delay that may influence long-term outcome. A sample of 260 consecutive patients (age: 57 ± 10 years, men: 84%) with TSTEMI was analyzed. Significantly lower mortality was observed in early-treated TSTEMI patients (11.2%) vs that seen in late-treated patients (21.6%). Early-treated TSTEMI patients obviously tended to experience improved survival, as shown by the Kaplan-Meier curve. Based on these findings, experts recommended treatment of TSTEMI patients, if not by primary coronary intervention, then at least within 17 hours from admission so that better long-term outcome may be achieved in these patients.
