Optical coherence tomography patterns and outcomes of contusion maculopathy caused by impact of sporting equipment

Li D, et al. - Authors ascertained the patterns and outcomes of contusion maculopathy after ocular contusions resulting from accidental impact with sporting equipment. Four patterns of contusion maculopathy with different treatment outcomes were identified with early OCT images. The visual function and retinal morphology in types I and II remained intact. Findings suggested an effectiveness of the treatments of vitrectomy and SF6 gas tamponade for patients with types III and IV, respectively.
