Optical coherence tomography angiography in optic disc swelling
American Journal of Ophthalmology May 16, 2018
Fard MA, et al. - Researchers compared optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) of peripapillary total vasculature and capillaries in patients with optic disc swelling. They noted the usefulness of OCT-A to distinguish nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and papillitis from papilledema. For differentiating disc swelling, greatest diagnostic accuracy was seen with whole-image capillary density. Compared with papilledema eyes, significantly lower peripapillary capillary density (PCD) of NAION eyes was seen with the customized software, but no notable differences between papilledema and control subjects were demonstrated.
