Oncological outcomes of early stage glottic squamous cell carcinoma treated with transoral laser microsurgery
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Dec 08, 2019
Lei L, Zhong D, Zou J, et al. - Among 201 patients (191 men and 10 women) with early-stage glottic squamous cell carcinoma treated with transoral laser microsurgery (TLM), researchers reviewed the rates of oncological outcomes. For this investigation, they analyzed the medical records of patients treated with TLM with previously untreated early-stage glottic squamous cell carcinoma. Data reported that the 3- and 5-year overall survival rates of all patients were 94.5% and 90.9%. It was noted that the organ preservation rate was 98.5%. Local recurrence patient mortality was 22.2%, which was higher for those without recurrence than that. Findings suggested that AC involvement was a predictor of local recurrence and its presence was related to a decreased survival rate and increased mortality following TLM. TLM had a high rate of survival and a low rate of recurrence. Staging and oncological results did not differ among subgroups in the tumor stage.
