Objectively measured 24-hour activity profiles before and after total hip arthroplasty
The Bone & Joint Journal Apr 04, 2019
Thewlis D, et al. - In this exploratory study, researchers examined a total of 51 total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients [mean age 64 years (24 to 87)] to investigate the postoperative improvement in the 24-hour activity profile (ie waking activities and sleep) objectively measured using wrist-worn accelerometry in these patients. For the first time, the 24-hour activity profile of THA patients was described in this work. Preoperatively, patients slept or were sedentary for a mean of 19.5 hours/day and postoperatively, there appeared no significant improvement in the 24-hour activity pattern. Furthermore, no improvement in 24-hour activity profiles at six months postoperative was evident in this cohort.
