Obesity and 30-day outcomes following minimally invasive nephrectomy
Urology Aug 22, 2018
Sperling CD, et al. - Authors assessed the correlation between obesity and postoperative outcomes following minimally invasive partial nephrectomy (MIPN) and minimally invasive radical nephrectomy (MIRN). As seen in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) study, the likelihood of overall complications or readmission within 30 days was not seen to be independently predicted by BMI, and for MIPN or MIRN it should not be considered a major barrier. On the contrary, obesity along with other comorbidities should be considered when risk-stratifying patients prior to minimally invasive nephrectomy.
