Nonanimal hyaluronic acid for the treatment of ankle osteoarthritis: A prospective, single-arm cohort study

Younger ASE, et al. - In this prospective, single-arm cohort study, authors studied 37 subjects with Kellgren-Lawrence grade II or III ankles osteoarthritis (OA) receiving an intra-articular injection of NASHA (1 mL) to analyze the outcome of nonanimal hyaluronic acid for the treatment of ankle OA. They observed the least squares (LS) mean change from baseline in the ankle OA visual analog scale (VAS) pain score of –20.5mm with LS mean percentage reduction of 40.0% during the 26-week follow-up period. They recorded 7 adverse events in 5 subjects viz, injection site pain (3), injection site joint pain (3) and plantar fasciitis (1).
