No impact of exacerbation frequency and severity on the physical activity decline in COPD: A long-term observation
International Journal of COPD Feb 21, 2019
Sievi NA, et al. – Given that COPD exacerbations have been linked to a concomitant profound reduction in daily physical activity (PA), researchers studied the connection between frequency and severity of exacerbations and changes in PA over time using uni- and multivariate mixed effect models. They found that the overall decline in PA over time was not related to the number or severity of exacerbations. According to findings, the reduction in PA during the acute exacerbation phase may not be a lasting phenomenon resulting in a fundamental change in the behavior of activity.
