Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio predicts intracranial hemorrhage after endovascular thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke

Journal of Neuroinflammation Nov 22, 2018

Pikija S, et al. - Experts sought to assess if the predictive value of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) at admission also translates into the occurrence of hemorrhagic complications and poor functional outcome following endovascular treatment (EVT). As per data, for the development of ICH after EVT, NLR is an independent predictor. Multivariate analysis suggested an independent association of higher admission NLR with ICH. They noted 3.89 to be the optimal cutoff value of NLR that best distinguished the development of ICH. More commonly, the patients with ICH had a worse outcome at 3 months, and were characterized by a lower body mass index, more frequent presence of tandem occlusions, higher NLR, larger intracranial thrombus, and prolonged rt-PA and groin puncture times.
