National trends and outcomes of cardiac arrest in opioid overdose

Sakhuja A, et al. - The purpose of this study was to determine the epidemiology and outcomes of cardiac arrests associated with opioid overdoses. Researchers recognized that cardiac arrest was more common in patients with opioid overdoses in comparison to non-opioid overdoses. There appeared a disproportionate increase in the rate of cardiac arrest in patients with opioid overdoses. For both cardiac arrest and mortality in patients with overdoses, opioid overdoses seemed independent risk factors.
