Multidrug-resistant infections among hospitalized adults with community-acquired pneumonia in an Indonesian tertiary referral hospital
Infection and Drug Resistance Dec 05, 2019
Purba AKR, Ascobat P, Muchtar A, et al. - In this observational retrospective study on cases with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) from 2014 to 2016 at Dr. Soetomo referral hospital of Surabaya, Indonesia, experts assessed the clinical and microbiological appearance among hospitalized pneumonia individuals focusing on resistance and risk factors for mortality in a referral hospital. Of 202 isolates, 181 had antimicrobial susceptibility data. Among hospitalized CAP cases, one-fifth of causative agents were recognized as MDR organisms. To the third-generation cephalosporins, the pathogens of MDR and non-MDR CAP continued to be susceptive. Thus, to prognosticate the prognosis of 14-day mortality, together with further accountability of culture findings and the Pneumonia Severity Index evaluation, a 3-day clinical evaluation is required.
