Mortality-specific comorbidity among inpatients with ischemic stroke in West China
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica May 03, 2019
Si Y, et al. - Researchers studied 10,331 hospitalized ischemic stroke (IS) patients to examine the current condition of mortality-specific comorbidity. Five-year data were extracted from the hospital medical database for patients with IS. According to findings, major mortality contributors in in-hospital patients with IS include a high prevalence of peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, liver disease, chronic pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation or flutter. With a Charlson Comorbidity Index score≥3, one-third of older IS patients are exposed to high mortality risk. In order to reduce mortality, early prevention and management of potential comorbidities are needed.
