Mortality after drug-eluting stents vs coronary artery bypass grafting for left main coronary artery disease: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
European Heart Journal Mar 09, 2020
Ahmad Y, Howard JP, Arnold AD, et al. - Researchers analyzed five eligible trials with 4,612 patients, to compare coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) vs percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents (DES) for the treatment of left main coronary artery disease (LMCAD). The included studies were randomized trials. All-cause mortality was the primary efficacy endpoint. The evidence gained in this study revealed similar long-term mortality following PCI with DES vs CABG among patients treated for LMCAD. In addition, PCI and CABG afforded no significantly different outcomes in terms of cardiac death, stroke, or myocardial infarction (secondary endpoints). Following CABG vs PCI, unplanned revascularization procedures were less common.
