Morbidity and mortality in patients with cardiovascular risk factors and obstructive sleep apnoea: Results from the DIAST-CHF cohort
Respiratory Medicine Jun 26, 2019
Haarmann H, et al. - In a cohort of patients with cardiovascular risk factors, researchers studied the connection between obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Three hundred seventy-eight DIAST-CHF cohort patients were screened by home polygraph for OSA. Criteria for inclusion were risk factors for diastolic heart failure, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, atherosclerotic disease, or history of chronic heart failure. According to this prospective study, no significant difference was found in the occurrence of major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events in patients with OSA vs those without OSA. In a cohort of patients with cardiovascular risk factors, the authors found no evidence of adverse effects of OSA on cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.
