Morbidity and mortality after lifestyle intervention for people with impaired glucose tolerance: 30-year results of the Da Qing Diabetes Prevention Outcome Study
The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology May 22, 2019
Gong Q, et al. - In this investigation involving 577 candidates, researchers evaluated the long-term impacts of lifestyle interventions on the incidence of diabetes, its complications and mortality in people with impaired glucose tolerance. In these patients, lifestyle intervention delayed the onset of type 2 diabetes and decreased the incidence of cardiovascular events, microvascular complications, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality, and increased life expectancy. These outcomes give strong justification for continued implementation and expansion of the use of such interventions to curb the type 2 diabetes global epidemic and its consequences.
