Modified frailty as a novel factor in predicting the response to cardiac resynchronization in the elderly population

Clinical Interventions in Aging Mar 04, 2019

Mlynarska A, et al. - In this single-center prospective study, researchers assessed the effect of frailty syndrome on the response to treatment with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in 246 patients of 60 years or older (aged 73.35±6.95; 22.4% women) with an implanted CRT, followed for 12 months. Frailty was assessed using the Tilburg Frailty Indicator (5 or more points). Using an analysis of clinical criteria, they assessed response to CRT. The response to CRT was independently predicted by frailty in the logistic regression. In the responders to CRT, the area under the curve of the ROC curve for frailty was 0.62. The estimated cut-off value for a designation of frailty was 6. An improved prediction of a response to CRT could be achieved by modifying the level of recognition in the Tilburg Frailty Indicator.
