Missed opportunities for depression screening and treatment in the United States
Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine May 27, 2018
Kato E, et al. - Researchers estimated the prevalence of depression assessment in adults age 35 and older from 2014-2015 using a nationally representative survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Medical Expenditure Panel Survey. They also investigated if the prevalence varied by sociodemographic characteristics and depressive symptoms. Data showed that nearly 50% of US adults aged 35+ were being assessed for depression, however, the depression needs of many Americans remained unassessed. The populations which were more likely to be missed included men, people over 75 years old, minorities, and the uninsured.
