Midlife vascular risk factors and midlife cognitive status in relation to prevalence of mild cognitive impairment and dementia in later life: The Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study
Alzheimer's & Dementia May 17, 2018
Knopman DS, et al. - In the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study, the specialists researched the interplay between midlife vascular risk factors and midlife cognitive function with later life mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia (DEM). They assessed cardiovascular risk factors and cognition in midlife, aged 45–64 years. Data reported that midlife diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and hypercholesterolemia were associated with late-life MCI and DEM in five thousand, nine hundred ninety-five members with complete covariate data. They concluded that later life MCI and DEM were independently correlated with midlife vascular risk factors and midlife cognition.
