Metabolic syndrome increases cardiovascular risk in a population with prediabetes: A prospective study in a cohort of Chinese adults
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Jan 06, 2019
Chen Z, et al. - Among 19,464 Chinese adults with prediabetes (defined as a fasting plasma glucose level between 5.6 and 6.9 mmol/L, and with neither a history of diabetes nor current use of hypoglycemic drugs), researchers assessed the link between metabolic syndrome (MS) with cardiovascular (CV) risk. According to findings, the risk for major CV events was significantly higher in those with MS vs those without in this study population. Thus, the investigators advised that MS should be included for risk stratification among people with prediabetes as it is an important marker for long-term adverse outcomes.
