Metabolic factors and the risk of colorectal cancer by KRAS and BRAF mutation status
International Journal of Cancer May 23, 2019
Myte R, et al. - Researchers used two population-based cohorts within the Northern Sweden Health and Disease Study to determine the impact of tumor KRAS and BRAF mutation status on the links between body mass index (BMI), blood glucose, blood lipids, and blood pressure, and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk. In this study with 117,687 participants, an increased risk of overall CRC was observed in relation to higher BMI, total cholesterol, triglyceride levels, and blood pressure; this finding is consistent with previous evidence. Irrespective of CRC subtype by KRAS and BRAF mutation status, these links were comparable. The same was true for subtypes based on microsatellite instability status.
