Meta-analysis of impact of anemia and hemoglobin level on survival after transcatheter aortic valve implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology Oct 25, 2018
Takagi H, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from available studies reporting the impact of baseline anemia and decreases in baseline hemoglobin levels on survival after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Studies had to be comparative studies of patients with baseline anemia vs those without baseline anemia or cohort studies investigating baseline anemia (as a dichotomous variable) or baseline hemoglobin levels (as a continuous variable) as a prognostic factor of mortality, focused on patients undergoing TAVI, and concerned with early (30-day or in-hospital) or late (including early) all-cause mortality, to be eligible. Findings suggested a possible association of baseline anemia and lower baseline hemoglobin levels with increased early and midterm mortality following TAVI.
