Meta-analysis comparing transradial vs transfemoral secondary access in transcatheter aortic valve implantation

The American Journal of Cardiology Jul 30, 2020

Jhand A, Apala DR, Dhawan R, et al. - Given that during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), up to a quarter of vascular complications happen because of secondary access via the femoral artery (FA), and that there are limited data regrading the results of radial artery (RA) secondary access vs FA secondary access, so, researchers compared secondary access sites by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis. They systematically explored PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane library and CINAHL to identify studies comparing RA and FA as secondary access sites for TAVI. With RA, a lower risk of major vascular complications as well as lower incidence of stroke and all-cause death was reported. Overall, RA secondary access, vs FA, was shown to be related to better outcomes for TAVI.
