Meta-analysis comparing torsemide vs furosemide in patients with heart failure
The American Journal of Cardiology Oct 17, 2019
Abraham B, Megaly M, Sous M, et al. - As torsemide seems to be a more efficient diuretic than furosemide given its theoretically favorable oral bioavailability and half-life, researchers sought to assess the clinical outcomes of torsemide vs furosemide via performing a systematic review and meta-analysis including 19 studies (9 randomized control trials and 10 observational studies) with a total of 19,280 patients. Torsemide vs furosemide was correlated with a numerically lower risk of hospitalization due to heart failure during a mean follow-up duration of 15 months. Compared with furosemide, torsemide led to statistically significant more improvement in functional status from New York Heart Association class III/IV to I/II and was associated with a lower risk of cardiac mortality.
