Meta-analysis comparing direct oral anticoagulants vs vitamin K antagonists after transcatheter aortic valve implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology Jan 13, 2020
Ueyama H, Kuno T, Ando T, et al. - In order to determine the safety as well as the efficacy of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) vs vitamin K antagonist (VKA) among patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) with a concomitant indication of oral anticoagulation, researchers undertook this meta-analysis of five eligible studies with 2,569 patients. The included studies were identified from PUBMED and EMBASE explored through October 2019. All-cause mortality and stroke were the main efficacy outcomes and major and/or life-threatening bleeding was considered as the main safety outcome. Findings revealed similar outcomes in terms of all-cause mortality, major and/or life-threatening bleeding, and stroke between DOACs and VKA in patients undergoing TAVI with a concomitant indication for oral anticoagulation.
