Meibomian glands structure in daily disposable soft contact lens wearers: A one‐year follow‐up study
Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics Jul 31, 2020
Llorens-Quintana C, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the effect of daily disposable soft contact lenses on meibomian gland morphology over a period of 12 months. For this analysis, 41 participants (33 experienced and 8 neophytes) were fitted with either silicone‐hydrogel or hydrogel daily contact lenses. Four visits were included in the study protocol: baseline, day‐2 for contact lens fit and follow‐up measurements, as well as after 6 and 12 months of lens wear. According to findings, contact lens wear impacts the morphology of the meibomian gland. The changes, however, are either long-term or characteristic of an early phase. Individuals with no history of contact lens wear show better meibomian gland conditions than experienced wearers. Meibomian gland morphology changes in individuals wearing daily disposable hydrogel lenses during one year of contact lens wear.
