Medial anatomical buttress plate in treating displaced femoral neck fracture: A finite element analysis
Injury Aug 23, 2019
Li J, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the optimal strategy for treating displaced femoral neck fractures. Based on the analysis of the CT data of anatomical structures derived from a large sample population, they designed a medial anatomical buttress plate (MABP). The outcomes of the combination of the MABP with cannulated screws were compared with those of the combination of tubular plate with cannulated screws, and with those of using cannulated screws alone via performing finite element analyses. Addition of a medial buttress plate led to the achievement of superior medial buttress stability as well as superior performance as it perfectly fits with the existing anatomic structure of the medial femoral neck.
