Mapping the global distribution of Buruli ulcer: A systematic review with evidence consensus
The Lancet Global Health Jun 19, 2019
Simpson H, et al. - Via a systematic review of Buruli ulcer (a neglected tropical disease caused by the environmental pathogen Mycobacterium ulcerans) on 2,763 titles, the researchers targeted to synthesize and evaluate data on Buruli ulcer prevalence and it's distribution. Presence in 32 countries and consensus on presence in 12, were evident. The global distribution of Buruli ulcer was concluded uncertain and potentially wider than currently recognized. From directing surveillance activities to informing burden estimates, the findings from the study represented the strongest available evidence on Buruli ulcer distribution so far and had many potential applications.
