Management of heart failure in cardiac amyloidosis using an ambulatory diuresis clinic
American Heart Journal Dec 26, 2020
Vaishnav J, Hubbard A, Chasler JE, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective analysis to determine the outcomes of an ambulatory diuresis clinic in the treatment of congestion associated with cardiac amyloidosis (CA). Participants were patients with CA examined in an outpatient HF disease management clinic. A total of 44 CA cases were examined in the clinic 203 times over 6 months. Findings showed that ambulatory intravenous diuresis is feasible in patients with CA. Experts inferred that acute care utilization in patients with CA may be decreased by the use of a HF disease management clinic. In patients with HF because of CA (a group that otherwise exhibits a poor prognosis and contributes to high health care burden), an effective alternative to hospitalization may be leveraging multidisciplinary outpatient HF clinics.
