Management of early deep wound infection after thoracolumbar instrumentation: Continuous irrigation suction system vs vacuum-assisted closure system
Spine Sep 06, 2018
Yuan W, et al. - Researchers retrospectively evaluated patients who had thoracolumbar instrumentation at their spine surgery center from 2005 to 2015 to assess the clinical outcomes of continuous irrigation suction systems (CISS) vs vacuum-assisted closure system (VACS) for early deep wound infection (DWI). Outcomes suggest that thorough debridement followed by CISS or VACS are comparable in treating DWI in these patients. Regarding hospital stay and cost, the CISS treatment was statistically significant in comparison to the VACS treatment.
