Longitudinal study of self-reported hearing loss and subjective cognitive function decline in women
Alzheimer's and Dementia Oct 26, 2019
Curhan SG, et al. - Researchers conducted this longitudinal study to explore the association between self-reported hearing loss and risk of subjective cognitive function decline, defined as a new report of at least one cognitive concern during follow-up, among women. The sample consisted of 20,193 women in the Nurses' Health Study aged ≥ 66 years who reported their hearing status and had no subjective cognitive concerns in 2012. Findings suggested an association of self-reported hearing loss with a higher risk of incident subjective cognitive function decline in women. Recent hearing loss progression has been associated with even higher risk.
