Long term outcomes of repeated corneal transplantations: A prospective Dutch registry study
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jul 05, 2018
Dickman MM, et al. - Researchers compared the long-term outcomes of repeated corneal transplantations (CT), based on primary indication (Fuchs endothelial dystrophy, FED vs pseudophakic bullous keratoplasty, PBK), surgical technique (penetrating keratoplasty, PK vs endothelial keratoplasty, EK), and indication for repeated grafting. In repeated CT, a significant increase, coinciding with the introduction of EK in the Netherlands was noted. While better overall regraft survival for FED and (re-)EK was demonstrated with univariable analysis, multivariable analysis showed no such difference. Findings suggested a probability of this due to allocation of favorable cases to undergo (re-)EK. Similarly, primary CT technique determined the secondary outcomes.
